As Valentine’s Day approaches, you’ll likely hear from various businesses and influencers about how to love your people well through gift-giving. While I genuinely believe in expressing love through gifts—I love giving them, and it’s one of my love languages—I also recognize that gifts alone won’t sustain long-term engagement or love.

To truly understand love, we must embrace our identity in Christ. I’ve discovered God’s love by seeking Him, asking questions, praying, and engaging in other spiritual practices.

The truth is, God’s love is for everyone—yes, everyone. There’s nothing we can do or say to change that fact. Unfortunately, distractions and shame often hinder us from letting Him fully into our hearts, sinking deeper into His love.

If you’re like me, you want to DO things for God, but God asks us to be slow and intentional when spending time with Him. I know I sound repetitive, but I will continue to emphasize the importance of helping others believe in God’s love for them, as it has changed my life. I have moved from merely knowing that God loves me to fully believing, without a doubt, in His love for me.

If this resonates with you, I’d like to share a helpful spiritual practice and some resources that can guide you in accepting God’s love.

5 Biblical Affirmations as a Spiritual Practice:

Short Biblical affirmations can be incredibly beneficial when you’re feeling discouraged or distant from God. I find it a helpful practice to read scripture supporting the affirmation and then re-writing it in my own words, as if God is speaking them to me can be powerful. Here are some affirmations to remind yourself of His love:

  • I am Enough (Isaiah 43:4)
  • I am Loved (John 3:16)
  • I am Seen (Genesis 16:13)
  • I am Chosen (Ephesians 1:4)
  • I am Worthy (Ephesians 4:1)

Helpful Resources:

This morning, as I was reading in Genesis, I noticed that God refers to Himself as “Lord, the Almighty God.” It’s awe-inspiring to think that the Almighty God loves you.

P.S. I often write while listening to instrumental music. Today, it’s Vitamin String Quartet. Isn’t it funny that while I’m writing this, an instrumental version of “I Will Always Love You” started playing? I’m taking that as a little wink from God. 😉
